Lunar eclipse, rare yoga of Pitrupaksha and Panchak

Start of lunar eclipse and sutak
A lunar eclipse is taking place on 7 September 2025. It will be visible in India and hence its sutak period will be valid. According to the almanac, the Sutak period starts 9 hours before the eclipse starts. This time the lunar eclipse will start at 09:57 pm and the end will be at 01:2 26. In such a situation, the Sutak period will start from 12 to 57 minutes a day. As soon as the sutak starts, religious work, opening of the temple gates, making food or receiving are forbidden.
Purnima Shraddha Karma and Pitrupaksha’s beginning
September 7 is also the full moon date of Bhadrapada month. On this day, Shraddha Karma of Purnima is performed, which is also considered to be the first Shraddha of Pitrupaksha. Since Pitrupaksha is starting on this day and at the same time the sutak of lunar eclipse is being seen, it is necessary to deal with Shraddha Karma before the sutak. In the scriptures, any karma to be done for the ancestors in the Sutak period is forbidden.
Why is it necessary to Shraddha before Sutak
The importance of Pitrupaksha is related to satisfying our ancestors and getting their blessings. Pitrupaksha begins with full moon shraddha. In such a situation, the deeds like Brahmin food, tarpan and charity should be completed before the sutak. After the start of the sutak, it is prohibited to do all this.
Panchak’s influence
Panchak has also started from 6 September. The Panchak period is considered inauspicious. During this time, works like building houses, roofing, weaving beds and bodies are forbidden. In such a situation, when Panchak is also being coincident with Pitrupaksha and eclipse, then people should be more vigilant and should do rituals according to classical rules.
