Spandan PV completed a memorable double at the first-ever PRO40 Pickleball Tournament, hosted by the Karnataka Pickleball Association under the aegis of the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), the National Sports Federation for Pickleball in India, in Bengaluru.
The tournament saw high-intensity matches, celebrating talent across categories and demonstrating pickleball’s rapid growth in the state. In the men’s doubles final, Spandan and Anurag Barmecha – the seventh-seeded duo – stunned top seeds Rashein Samuel and Rishi Reddy 11-8 to lift the title. They were dominant throughout the event, producing a commanding 11-2 victory over Gowtham Ramesh and Ranjit Kupil in the semifinals to book their place in the summit clash.
Spandan’s second triumph came in the mixed doubles, where he partnered with Kasturi Vighne to overpower Kavya J and Akash Shivshankar 11-3 in the final. In the semifinal, the pair defeated Harsh Pancholi and Prerana Pratap 11-5 to seal their spot in the championship match.
Despite the setback in the men’s doubles final, Rishi Reddy bounced back in style to claim the men’s singles crown. In a thrilling final, he edged out his doubles partner Rashein 12-10 to secure the title.
Shreya wins women’s singles title
In the women’s singles competition, Shreya Bhumireddy emerged as champion with an 11-6 win over Kavya J. Shreya had earlier outclassed Kasturi 11-4 in the semifinals, while Kavya registered a hard-fought 11-7 victory over Neha Arora in the other semifinal.
The tournament also featured veteran events. In the 35+ men’s singles, Vishwanath Shankar emerged victorious, while Dinesh Thampi Somnath clinched the 50+ men’s singles title.
