Stampede at South Superstar Vijay’s Rally: A major accident occurred at the rally of Tamilga Vatri Kazagam (TVK) chief Vijay in Karur district of Tamil Nadu, where 34 people died in a stampede. Officials said 46 people were injured. Police sources said that some people fainted at the place where a large number of people were moving forward, causing a stampede.
A senior police officer speculated that “at least 30,000 people gathered at the venue”, where Vijay had to deliver a speech after his last rally in Namakkal. However, he was delayed by more than six hours in his arrival, by then the crowd had become uncontrollable. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed grief over this tragedy in a post on X.
Stalin said that, the news received from Karur is very sad. I have ordered immediate treatment of the injured and directed the Health Minister, Collector and former Minister Senthil Balaji to help. The ADGP has been tasked to restore normal conditions. Minister Ambil Mahesh has been instructed to provide help on a war footing. I appeal to the public to cooperate with the police.
At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the unfortunate incident during the political rally in Karur is very sad.
He said, “My condolences are with families who have lost their loved ones. I wish them to strengthen them in this difficult time. I pray for the early recovery of all the injured.”
