South Delhi fire tragedy: Four dead, one injured in Tigri Extension shop blaze

New Delhi: A tragic fire at a footwear shop took  four lives and left a woman injured on Saturday evening in south Delhi’s Tigri Extension, as stated by the police. Among those who died were a brother and sister. 

The fire started around 6:24 pm, when police received a PCR call about a blaze in a footwear shop located on the ground floor of a four-storey building. By the time police teams reached the spot, the entire structure was already burnt in flames, a senior officer said.

Officials believe the fire began inside the shop before quickly spreading to the upper floors, trapping several people inside. Firefighters and police personnel rushed into the burning building to rescue those who were still stuck.

Three people were found dead at the site. Two women were rescued and taken to a hospital, but sadly, one of them later died due to severe burn injuries.

The victims have been identified as Satender alias Jimmy, 38, the owner of the building, and his sister Anita, 40. The injured woman has been identified as Mamta, 40, who has suffered nearly 25 percent burns and is currently undergoing treatment. Police said the remaining deceased individuals are yet to be identified.

The incident has left the neighbourhood in shock, police have called the crime and forensic teams to examine the building and collect evidence. Samples from the site are being analysed to know what caused the fire and whether any safety measures were missing. The investigation is going on.

Authorities said updates will be provided once identification of all victims is complete and more details about the cause of the fire emerge.
