Child Sexual Abuse Father Case: In the case of rape of a minor daughter in Chopan, Sonbhadra, the POCSO court sentenced the accused father to life imprisonment. The decision came in 35 days on the basis of DNA report and medical evidence.

The matter is of Chopan police station area of Sonbhadra district. According to the complaint, the victim’s mother passed away in March 2025. After this the 15 year old girl was living with her two brothers and father. It is alleged that the very next month after the mother’s death, the father raped his own minor daughter, due to which she became pregnant. The victim’s maternal uncle lodged a complaint with the police in October last year. He told that due to pregnancy, changes had started taking place in the girl’s body. Aunty became suspicious when her stomach started appearing in the seventh month. During interrogation the girl narrated her entire ordeal. After this the family took him to the police station.
Police readiness: Case registered under POCSO
Seeing the seriousness of the matter, Chopan police immediately registered an FIR under the POCSO Act and arrested the accused. Medical examination of the victim was done and DNA test was done. During investigation it became clear that the baby girl was the child of the accused. The police filed a charge sheet in the court with necessary evidence. The hearing of this case took place in the special POCSO court.

Decision in 35 days, life sentence, abortion not allowed
Special POCSO Court Judge Amit Veer Singh termed the case as heinous and sentenced the accused to rigorous life imprisonment. Besides, a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh has been imposed, out of which Rs 1 lakh 20 thousand will be given to the victim. The decision being reached in just 35 days of hearing shows that the court gave priority to the case and ensured speedy justice.
After the matter came to light, the girl was kept under the supervision of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The family sought permission for abortion, but the court did not allow it. On January 13, the girl gave birth to a baby girl in the district hospital. The court commented in its judgment that this decision is not limited to punishing just one person but is meant to send a clear message to the society that sexual offenses against minors will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
