Sonam Wangchuk Message: Environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk, who was arrested after a violent demonstration in Ladakh on 24 September, has asked people to continue the struggle peacefully. In his message sent from Jodhpur Central Jail, Wangchuk said that he was ready to stay in jail till the judicial inquiry of the protests in Leh and then the action of police and security forces.

What did Sonam Wangchuk say in her message?

Wangchuk said in his message that he is physically and mentally healthy and is grateful to the support of the public. He expressed condolences to the families of four people killed during the violence and prayed for the injured and arrested people. He also said that independent judicial inquiry into cases of death is necessary. Until this investigation is complete, he will remain in jail. The Ladakh administration has ordered the magistrate to investigate the incidents of 24 September, but Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance are demanding a judicial inquiry by the retired judge of the Supreme Court. Out of the 70 people detained after the demonstration, 30 have been released so far, while efforts are on to release the remaining 40 people.

Hearing postponed till 14 October

At the same time, the Supreme Court on Monday heard the petition of the Hebius carpas related to social activist Sonam Wangchuk in Jodhpur Jail. The bench of Justice Arvind Kumar and Justice NV Anjaria has deferred the hearing till 14 October. In the court, Wangchuk’s lawyer Kapil Sibal said in the argument that the reason for the reasons for Sonam Wangchuk was detained has not been handed over to the family. On this, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, presented by the central government, said- have already been given to the person detained due to custody. It will be considered to give a copy to Wangchuk’s wife.
