Mumbaikars woke up to limited autorickshaws and taxis running on the streets. Drivers had an August 15 deadline to learn Marathi as the Maharashtra State Transport Department made it mandatory. Today, that is August 24, autorickshaw and taxi drivers went on a three-day strike over the Marathi language compulsion. According to a report, RTO officials have checked 5,211 drivers, including 3,942 in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, since August 20. Out of those inspected in the MMR, 722 were found to have no knowledge of Marathi. They were issued notices.

Sonam Kapoor reacted to the development on Instagram. Commenting on a post shared by journalist Faye D’Souza, Kapoor responded to the Maharashtra State Transport Department’s inspection in the city. She wrote, “Huh (sic)”

Why Mumbai Auto-Taxi drivers received notice?
According to News18’s report, the Maharashtra State Transport Department has given one month to the drivers who received notices for not knowing Marathi. Those failing to clear the language assessment test in an examination after a month will be subjected to suspension of authorisation for up to three months. Repeated violations could result in cancellation.

After Vayu’s birth, Sonam was supposed to resume work with he screen adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s Battle For Bittora. It was scheduled to go on floors in 2025. Post the birth of Rudralokh, Sonam made her first appearance at her cousin sister Anshula Kapoor’s wedding with Rohan Thakkar on July 6 in Mumbai. She is yet to reveal her children’s faces on social media. Her elder son Vayu turned four on August 20.
