Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur’s comedy sequel Son of Sardaar 2 has failed to set the box office on fire. The movie has struggled to draw the eyeballs and compete with the movies such as Saiyaara and Mahaavatar Narasimha.
The Hindi movie hit the big screens on August 1, a decade after the first instalment hit the screens. Unfortunately, its box office performance hasn’t matched the success of the 2012 release. Son of Sardaar 2 OTT Release
For those who missed catching Son of Sardaar 2 in theatres or prefer watching from home, there’s good news. Netflix has secured the digital streaming rights for the film. Although an official OTT release date hasn’t been announced yet, it might start streaming between September 12 and 26, 2025, as per the reports. This is based on the typical six-to-eight-week window after a theatrical release.
Box Office Performance
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, Son of Sardaar 2 has earned Rs 65.38 crore at the worldwide box office, as per a report in Koimoi. In India alone, it earned Rs 47.15 crore (net).
The movie has grossed Rs 55.63 crore at the India box office while doing Rs 9.75 crore from overseas centres. Overall, the movie did not recover its investment as it was made with the budget of Rs 130 crore.
Despite Ajay Devgn’s star power and a loyal fan base for the original movie, the sequel faced stiff competition from other films released on the same day.
Movies like Dhadak 2, featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom, and Mahavatar Narsimha premiered simultaneously. This divided audience attention and impacted Son of Sardaar 2 success at the box office. Additionally, it faced tough competition from Saiyaara, which has performed exceptionally well globally, earning over Rs 569 crore.
