Sleep plays an important role in our staying healthy, hence doctors recommend that an adult person should take at least 7 to 8 hours of proper sleep every day, but a new study says that taking only 7-8 hours of sleep is not enough, but it is also important that you sleep at the same time every day. If you also sleep at different times every day, then it is giving rise to health problems. In modern lifestyle, most of the people are going through irregular sleep problems and this is the reason why they become victims of many diseases at an early age. Regarding this new study, let us know from the experts what is the connection between diseases and sleep. What health issues can occur due to sleeping at different times?

In today’s time, where some people are not able to sleep on time due to workload, some people have the habit of scrolling the screen, hence they remain awake till late night, which is already harmful. In such a situation, if you keep changing the timing of sleeping frequently – 10 hours one day, 11 hours the next day and so on, then the chances of diseases also increase. In a study published in the science journal, Health Data Science, it has been said that the sleep patterns of 88,461 people were tracked with the help of wearable devices. In which it was found that sleeping at different times every day or staying awake till late night increases the risk of diseases. Now let us know about this from experts.

Study on sleep

Dr. Bipin Kumar Sharma, Neurologist Consultant, Kailash Deepak Hospital, recently a study has been published in Nature Medicinal Journal. In which an AI model was trained. In which this model was trained with the polysobnograph of more than 65 thousand people. Polysobnograph basically means the study of analysis of our sleep. This model can now tell us the risk of more than 130 diseases. Nowadays doctors talk about sleep hygiene anyway. Along with adequate sleep, there is talk of good quality of sleep.

Risk of these serious diseases

Doctor Bipin Kumar Sharma says that sleep is an integral part of our routine which is a natural process. Humans spend about one-third of their lives sleeping, which is also necessary for us to stay healthy. Good sleep also protects us from many diseases. Due to poor sleep, diseases like obesity, blood pressure, heart attack, dementia, stroke, diabetes can occur. Doctors say that it is also important for our immune system to get good sleep. Due to inadequate sleep, the immune system remains weak, which increases the risk of infection.

sleep for so many hours

Now the question arises that what duration of sleep is necessary. Experts say that 7 to 9 hours of sleep is necessary for an average adult. This duration is slightly longer in small children and teenagers. We should not only get adequate sleep, but also have good quality sleep, that is, we should not wake up again and again at night, there should not be any kind of disturbance.

Biological clock gets disturbed

Dr. Bharat Kumar Surisetty, Consultant Neurologist, Yashoda Hospital Hyderabad, says that there is a biological clock (Circadian Rhythm) inside our body. If you sleep irregularly, there may be some misalignment, which affects other systems of your body as well. For example, hormone related fluctuations can occur. Usually, thyroid hormone, cortisol, and growth hormone in our body are at their peak in the early morning and are at their lowest level in the late night, hence poor sleep is related to our hormonal imbalance.

Hunger hormones increase

Dr. Bharat Kumar Surisetty says that due to poor sleep our hunger hormones (Ghrelin and Leptin) also increase. Because of this you start consuming junk food and extra calories. This can also cause the problem of insulin resistance, which increases the chances of diabetes. It also increases emotional disturbances in you like depression, anxiety and irritability and it also has a negative effect on memory (called memory consolidation). If you do not get proper sleep then you may face problems in day to day activities.

How to improve sleep pattern

To improve your sleep pattern, try to go to bed at the same time every day. To get better sleep, skip evening coffee and tea, because taking caffeine can interfere with sleep. Apart from this, some light exercise should be done in the evening. You can take a bath with lukewarm water before sleeping and also reduce your screen time.
