Somvar Vrat importance: In Hindu religion, Pradosh Vrat is observed to get the special blessings of Lord Shiva. When this fast falls on Monday then it is called Som Pradosh Vrat. Som Pradosh fast is being observed today, 16 March 2026. It is believed that by worshiping Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati with true heart on this day, all the wishes are fulfilled and happiness and prosperity comes in life. According to the Panchang, today the most auspicious time of Som Pradosh Kaal (evening puja) will be from 06:29 pm to 08:53 pm. Shiva worship done during this time is considered very fruitful.
Worship method of Som Pradosh fast
Take a resolution to fast while meditating on Lord Shiva. Fruits or water fast can be observed for the whole day. In the evening, during Pradosh period, worship Shivlinga at home or temple. Offer water, milk, belpatra, dhatura and sandalwood on Shivlinga. After this, light incense sticks and perform aarti of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. At last, chant Om Namah Shivay mantra and recite Shiv Chalisa. There is a religious belief that during Pradosh period, Lord Shiva performs Tandav on Kailash and by worshiping him at this time, devotees get special blessings. Therefore, worship Shiva this evening i.e. during Pradosh period.

- While offering Belpatra on Shivalinga, keep its smooth side upwards.
- Kumkum or turmeric is not offered to Lord Shiva.
- While worshiping, keep a positive attitude in your mind and stay away from anger.
