Etawah Smart Meter Bill Case: Three months after installation of smart meter in Etawah, a case of death of tea seller Mahavir due to electricity bill of Rs 1.60 lakh has come to light. The family members made serious allegations against the electricity department and protested by keeping the dead body outside the office.
Etawah A very sad case has come to light. After the death of 55-year-old Mahavir Singh, living in Mahavir Nagar area here, there is mourning in his family. The family alleges that the huge electricity bill took away their life.
It is being told that Mahavir used to earn his family’s living by selling tea. A smart meter was installed in his house only three months ago. But suddenly an electricity bill of Rs 1 lakh 60 thousand came in his name. Mahavir became very upset after seeing such a big bill.
Smart meter was installed 3 months ago
According to the family, Mahavir Singh had installed a smart meter in his house about three months ago. Initially everything was normal, but suddenly the whole family was shocked by such a huge electricity bill. Family members say that there is neither AC nor cooler in their house. In such a situation, how a bill of Rs 1.60 lakh arrived is beyond comprehension.

kept making rounds of the electricity department
The family alleges that after receiving the bill, Mahavir went to the electricity department office several times. He appealed to the officials to get the bill corrected, but his views were not listened to. Family members say that bribe was also allegedly demanded from them. Due to constant traveling and troubles, Mahavir started living under a lot of stress.
Heart attack occurred amid stress
The family alleges that amidst this tension, Mahavir’s health suddenly deteriorated and he suffered a heart attack. He died before he could be taken to the hospital. After Mahavir’s death, there was chaos in his house. The family says that if his complaint had been heard on time, perhaps Mahavir would have been alive today.
Dead body kept outside the electricity department office
After the death of Mahavir, angry family members and local people protested by keeping the dead body outside the office of Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited.
As soon as information about the incident was received, there was panic among the electricity department officials. Police also reached the spot and tried to convince the people. Later, after the arrival of public representatives, the situation was somehow calmed down. The family says that whoever is at fault in this matter, strict action should be taken against him. He alleges that his house lost its support due to a wrong electricity bill.
Official said- investigation of technical fault
Regarding the matter, SDO of Electricity Department Dilip Sahu said that there could be a technical reason behind the arrival of the bill. At present the entire matter is being investigated. He has assured that further action will be taken on the basis of whatever facts emerge after the investigation.
