While launching the Skoda Kodiaq RS, the team commented that the brand might launch more RS models in India. When asked about Kylaq getting an RS version, the automaker said that it is actively being considered. Later, there were no major developments on this topic. However, according to recent industry sources, the Skoda Kylaq will likely get the 1.5-litre turbo petrol unit from the Kushaq, but there’s a twist.
Skoda Kylaq RS Version – What’s New?
So, the Kylaq will finally be getting a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine – but the model will be developed for sale in European markets, where it will be sold as a compact SUV alternative to the Fabia. For that market, Skoda will be exporting the Kylaq with a higher-spec engine, ditching the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine currently available.
That said, for India, the Kylaq will be available solely with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine as it is currently. If Skoda plans to offer a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with the Kylaq, it would increase the overall cost of the model, which Indian’s might not appreciate. However, we would love to see the Kylaq get a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine for a limited number of units. Actually, equipping the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, it could be named the Kylaq RS.
What Else?
For the Indian auto market, Skoda has already confirmed that it will launch the Sportline variant of the Kylaq. According to the brand, it will be launched in the 3rd quarter of 2026 (July-September). But this new Sportline variant will add some sporty elements to the interior and exterior. Apart from that, there won’t be any changes made to the engine or the underpinnings. It will be powered by the same 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine (114bhp & 178Nm)
Expect the new Sportline variant in the Kylaq to be positioned below the top Prestige variant. This means it would share most of the features with the Signature+ variant. Some notable features include: a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, an electric sunroof, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, and more in its package.
That said, the Skoda meant for the European markets might get a more powerful engine, while the Indian region models will continue with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine for now. However, in the coming time, if Skoda plans a RS version of its popular SUV, we might get to see a powerful Skoda, but in limited units.
