SIR: Mohammad Salim was made Awasthi, ruckus over ‘Brahmin’ surname of Muslim leader in the new voter list. Mohammad Salim A Cpm Leader Has Been Listed As A Brahmin In The Sir Draft Roll

A big mistake has come to light in West Bengal SIR. The Brahmin surname ‘Awasthi’ was registered in the draft voter list in the names of CPM leader Mohammad Salim and his son Aatish Aziz. EC assured improvement before the final list. After SIR, 58 lakh names were removed.

West Bengal SIR: A major mistake has come to light during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in West Bengal. CPM state general secretary and former MP Mohammad Saleem and his son Aatish Aziz have been given the Brahmin surname ‘Awasthi’ in the recently published draft voter list.

Aatish Aziz shared details of voter list

Aatish Aziz said in a Facebook post, Election Commission of India has made me and Mohammad Salim also Brahmins. He also shared a photo of his voter details. In the ‘Surname’ section, ‘Awasthi’ is written in Bengali. According to Aziz, his father Mohammad Salim has been described as a relative. ‘Awasthi’ is also written in the ‘Surname’ section next to Salim’s name.

Election Commission is taking serious work like SIR lightly: Aziz

According to reports, Aziz said- My father has been a politician for decades. If such a mistake could happen in their case, one cannot even imagine what might have happened to others. At the same time, Mohammad Salim while attacking the Election Commission said, this mistake shows that the Election Commission has taken a serious task like SIR very lightly. He did not make necessary preparations and did not even give necessary training to the officers doing this work. He further said that the Chief Electoral Officer and the Chief Election Commissioner have made the SIR a “mockery”.

The mistake will be corrected before the final list is published.

Aatish Aziz has said that he will contact the booth level agent of CPM to get the improvements done. Sources in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Bengal did not give much importance to this mistake and said that such mistakes will be rectified before the final list is published in February.

After SIR, 58 lakh names removed from West Bengal

The Election Commission released the draft voter list yesterday after a special intensive revision exercise in the poll-bound state. A total of 58 lakh names have been removed, including 24 lakh voters marked as “dead”, 19 lakh as “permanently shifted” and 12 lakh as “missing”.
