Big increase in the number of BLA

The Election Commission has credit for the successful completion of the first phase of SIR, Chief Executive Officer of Bihar, District Election Officers of all 38 districts, 243 EROs, 2,976 AEROs, BLO posted at 77895 polling stations, millions of volunteers and regional representatives of all 12 major political parties, including 1.60 lakh BLA, go to all. The total number of BLA during the SIR period increased by more than 16%.

SIR was started from 24 June

SIR started on 24 June 2025 in Bihar. Its objective is to remove the names of the voter list from the voter list and remove the names of voters with double registrations and include eligible voters. Under this process, booth level officers (BLO) and booth level agents (BLA) went door-to-door to collect calculation forms from voters. The Commission almost completed the first phase of this process by 25 July, in which 99.8 percent of the voters were covered.

The Commission said that from 1 August to 1 September 2025, the eligible voters, whose names have been missed, will get an opportunity to include the draft in the voter list. The voters found enrolled at many places in the voter list will be named in only one place. This campaign started in Bihar is now a plan to implement the entire country.

Ruckus over sir in Bihar

There is a continuous dispute about SIR in Bihar. This is the first time that such widespread revision is happening in Bihar after 2003. All opposition parties, including RJD-Congress, claim that SIR is a conspiracy, which aims to snatch the voting rights of poor, Dalit, backward classes, and minorities. The opposition has described SIR as ‘backdoor NRC’. Opposition parties say that many families do not have the necessary documents, such as birth certificates. Only 2.8% of people in Bihar have birth certificates between 2001-2005, which threatens millions of people to withdraw from the voter list. Tejashwi Yadav said that this is being done to benefit the NDA.
