Sikh Man Left In Coma With Broken Facial Bones After Brutal Golf Club Attack In US

Members of the Sikh community came together on Monday in North Hollywood to show solidarity and support for Harpal Singh, a 70-year-old Sikh man who remains in critical condition after a brutal assault. The attack, which occurred on August 4, left Singh with severe injuries, including internal bleeding to the brain, and has shaken the local community to its core.

According to authorities, Singh was struck multiple times with a golf club by an assailant who then fled the scene. The incident happened near a Sikh temple where Singh lived, during an afternoon walk around 3 pm local time. Witnesses reported that the attacker was riding a bicycle and suddenly swung the golf club at Singh with great force, causing devastating trauma to his head and face.

Following the attack, Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital where he underwent at least three surgeries. These surgeries have been crucial in treating his broken facial bones, brain bleeding, and damage to his eye. Despite the medical efforts, Singh remains unconscious and unable to communicate with doctors or investigators. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit, fighting for his life.

Community Response And Call For Unity

The American Sikh Council (ASC), a prominent advocacy group, expressed deep concern over the violent assault. In a statement, ASC President Bibi Jasbir Kaur condemned the attack and extended heartfelt prayers and support to Harpal Singh and his family during this difficult time. She emphasised the importance of unity and vigilance within the Sikh community, stating, “No Sikh should fear for their safety while simply walking on the street or visiting a Gurdwara Sahib.”

While the motive behind the attack has not been officially confirmed, the ASC highlighted that such acts of violence are unacceptable in any society. Drawing attention to broader issues, the council cited FBI data from 2024 revealing that 142 hate crimes were reported against Sikh Americans, making them the third most targeted religious community in the United States.
