Bengaluru: Sidharth Akhil slammed a century while Sanjay Ashwin and Madhav P Bajaj scored handsome fifties as KSCA XI posted a very competitive first innings score against Maharashtra on the opening day of their Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah memorial tournament at the CMR University ground on Tuesday.
Opener Sanjay set the tone with a patient 88 off 195 balls, during which he shared a 167-run stand for the fourth wicket with Akhil. Unlike Sanjay, Akhil took the attack to Maharashtra, hammering a 136-ball 104, a knock which was studded with 12 boundaries and five sixes. No. 8 Bajaj then smashed 93 off just 62 balls as KSCA XI posted 361 all out in 79.3 overs. At stumps, Maharashtra were 0/0 in 1 over.
Things were, however, torrid for KSCA Combined XI, who crashed to 66 all out against Jharkhand at the SDNRW ground in Mysuru. Right-arm pacer Saurabh Shekhar was the wrecker-in-chief, bagging 5/10 in just eight overs. Jharkhand then showed there were no demons in the pitch and it was just bad batting from KSCA Combined XI as they took stumps at a commanding 223/3 in 50 overs with opener Sharandeep Singh scoring 78 and one-drop Utkarsh Singh remaining unbeaten on 93.
