Mumbai (Maharashtra): Filmmaker Vikas Bahl has successfully concluded the United Kingdom shooting schedule for his upcoming musical drama, ‘Bolo Bolo Bolo’.
The film features a strong ensemble cast including Siddhant Chaturvedi, Jimmy Shergill, Mona Singh, and Alizeh in pivotal roles. Set against the vibrant backdrop of the British Punjabi music movement of the early 1990s, this much-anticipated film is slated for a theatrical release in 2027.
‘Bolo Bolo Bolo’ delves into a significant period in Britain’s music history, exploring how young musicians ingeniously merged traditional Punjabi rhythms with contemporary, bass-heavy sounds, thereby forging a distinctive musical identity. The narrative meticulously traces the evolution of this burgeoning music scene, which began in humble garages, makeshift recording spaces, and through unlicensed radio broadcasts, operating largely outside the mainstream music industry.
Beyond its musical core, the film thoughtfully examines universal themes of family bonds, friendships, the complexities of identity, and the inherent human desire for belonging, all set against Britain’s evolving cultural landscape. Shibasish Sarkar, founder of Katha Studios, which is producing the film alongside Good Co, Fusion Flicks, and Monk Films, highlighted the project’s cultural importance. He stated, “‘Bolo Bolo Bolo’ captures a unique cultural movement that brought together music, identity, and a generation finding its voice. With Vikas Bahl at the helm and a talented cast, we eagerly await its 2027 release.”
Director Vikas Bahl shared his enthusiasm, noting that the film explores a time when a generation was actively crafting its own cultural identity through music and self-expression. The film’s soundtrack promises to draw inspiration from the diverse sounds that defined the British Punjabi music scene during that dynamic decade, reflecting its energy and experimental spirit. This film aims to revisit an influential chapter in the evolution of Punjabi music beyond India, offering a compelling story to audiences.
