The mystery of Khatu Shyam’s Shyam Kund
Khatu Shyam is a sacred pond located near the temple, about which many beliefs are prevalent. According to religious belief, this is the place from where the head of Barbarik i.e. Baba Shyam had appeared during the Mahabharata period. Devotees take bath in this pond and worship Khatu ji. There is a mythological belief that by taking bath in this Shyam Kund, the devotees get virtue, get freedom from sins and get the happiness of children.
Beliefs of Shyam Kund
Land of Sheesh Daan: It is believed that it was at this place that Barbarik donated his head on the demand of Krishna, due to which he is known as the ‘donor of the head’.
Unbroken water source:- It is said that the water of the pond never ends because it is believed that it is coming from the underworld.
Disclosure of Shisha: Shyam Kund is the same place where Barbarik’s head was revealed, due to which the Kund got its name “Shyam Kund”.
Miraculous Bath: Devotees believe that bathing in the pond removes all kinds of sins and diseases.
Child Happiness: Some people also believe that bathing in this pond brings happiness in having children.
Take home water: Devotees who come here fill the water of the pond in bottles and take it to their homes, because it is said that sprinkling it in the house drives away evil powers.
How did the glass appear?
According to mythological belief, Shyam Kund was earlier an ancient farm where a cow used to come daily to give its milk. When people started digging it, they found Barbarik’s head 30 feet below. Since then, bathing in this pond has been considered very virtuous.
