Shwetha Menon Faces Legal Trouble Over Alleged Obscene Content In Films And Ads Amid AMMA Election Bid

Shwetha Menon Case: Malayalam actress and former Bigg Boss Malayalam contestant Shwetha Menon has landed in legal trouble. A case has been filed against her by the Ernakulam Central Police in Kochi. The actress is accused of acting in and promoting allegedly obscene films and advertisements for financial gain. Known for her performances in Malayalam hits like Salt N’ Pepper and Hindi films like Bandhan and Asoka, Shwetha is yet to release an official statement addressing the allegations. This development comes at a particularly sensitive time as she is also in the race for the president’s post in AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists).

The complaint has been filed by public activist Martin Menachery, who claims that Shwetha Menon earned money by distributing explicit visuals from her film roles. According to him, these visuals were circulated through adult websites and social media platforms. Following the complaint, the Ernakulam CJM court ordered local police to take necessary action, resulting in an FIR against the actress.

The police have registered the case under Section 67(A) of the Information Technology Act, which relates to the publishing or transmission of sexually explicit content in electronic form. Additional charges have also been filed under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and the Prevention of Obscenity Act. The complaint highlights her roles in films such as Rathinirvedam, Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha, and Kalimannu, along with her appearance in a condom commercial, as examples of the content allegedly misused online.

This controversy has attracted even more attention due to Shwetha’s current candidacy for AMMA’s presidency. The election is scheduled to take place on August 15, and her name had been making headlines even before the case, owing to her prominent position among the candidates. Out of the six contenders who initially filed nominations, four have already withdrawn, including senior actor Jagadeesh. The president’s seat was left vacant after superstar Mohanlal stepped down, following the public release of the Justice Hema Committee Report in 2023, which had stirred significant discussions within the Malayalam film industry.
