Shweta Tiwari Gets Handwritten Apology After Abusive DMs; Thanks Raj Thackeray But Addresses ‘Larger Problem’

Shweta Tiwari’s online abuse row has taken an unexpected turn after the actor revealed that an MNS advocate reached out to her following her public complaint. Shweta had earlier shared screenshots of abusive Instagram accounts and questioned Raj Thackeray over whether such behaviour was acceptable from his supporters. On Thursday, she revealed that the MNS team acted within three days, tracking down the person responsible and sharing his phone number and a handwritten apology letter with her. While thanking Raj Thackeray and advocate Snehal Adarkar for taking the matter seriously, Shweta said the incident also highlighted a much larger problem surrounding online abuse, particularly against women.

Taking to her Instagram Stories on August 27, Shweta Tiwari has revealed what happened after she publicly called out abusive Instagram messages and questioned Raj Thackeray over the conduct of people claiming to support him. The actor said an MNS advocate, Snehal Adarkar, reached out to her after she raised the issue.

Shweta explained that the advocate acted within three days, traced the person responsible and shared his phone number and a handwritten apology letter with her. She wrote, “Within just three days, she shared the phone number of the person involved. And also a handwritten apology letter by him. I genuinely want to thank @adv_snehal_adarkar and the MNS team for taking the effort to look into this, find the person responsible and get back to me- without having me to ask them to do it.”

said she appreciated the MNS team taking the matter seriously and making it clear that insults against women were not acceptable. “I also appreciate that they felt it was important to let me know that they do not take insults against women lightly. Snehal also told me that if I ever face any such problem, I can get in touch with them. That effort was genuinely appreciated, and honestly, I felt better knowing that someone had taken it seriously,” she said. The advocate also clarified that the person who allegedly abused Shweta online was not part of the MNS party.

Despite the action, Shweta said the incident highlighted a much bigger concern about online abuse. “But at the same time, I couldn’t help thinking about the larger problem. We may be able to catch one or two people here and there, but what about the thousands, or perhaps millions, of people who hide behind their screens and feel completely invincible?” she wrote. She added, “The problem is much bigger than one person or one incident.” Shweta also urged technology companies and social media platforms to find ways to tackle the growing abuse directed at women online. She concluded by thanking Raj Thackeray and his team for taking her complaint seriously.
