Shubman Gill reportedly suffered a neck injury during the match he played on November 15, 2025. After the game, Shubman was taken to a local hospital in Kolkata, and further scans revealed that he would need to spend the night there. Live visuals from the cricket field showed the 26-year-old cricketer walking with a stiff neck spasm. He was monitored by the medical team of BCCI. The BCCI shared that it was not clear as to whether Shubman will be taking part further in the match.
Shubman Gill’s coach, Morne Morkel, gives details of his neck spasm injury
Morne Morkel, who is India’s bowling coach, revealed that Shubman Gill had woken up with a neck spasm. It was on the morning of November 15, 2025, when Shubman was doing neck exercises as a part of the warm-up. The coach then shared in the press conference that the injury may have been due to Shubman having a bad night’s sleep. The reason had nothing to do with Shubman being overloaded with work. In a press event, Morne shared:
“Yeah, I think we first need to determine how he got the neck stiffness, maybe last night’s sleep. I don’t think it’s, or we can put it down to the load. He looks after himself very well. Gill is a very fit guy, he looks after himself very well. So, it’s just unfortunate this morning that he woke up with a stiff neck and that carried him into the day, which was crucial for us. Another sort of partnership with him batting around was going to be needed for us at the time and… just bad timing.”

Shubman Gill then went on to play three balls off injured. However, when Shubman played a shot to get a boundary, he felt the pain when he got up to take his stance. Shubman, right from Eden Gardens, was stretched right from the stadium to the private hospitals where scans of his neck were done. He was reportedly seen wearing a neck brace and was also accompanied by a set of doctors and a security liaison officer right outside the stadium.

Shubman started feeling discomfort in three balls during his innings, and according to the publication’s report, the physio was called after Shubman was seen clutching the back of his neck. Shubman had to leave the field immediately and did not come back to bat, as sadly, India was bowled out at 189.
