Shubman Gill Achieves Milestone in Test Cricket, Joins Elite Club of Indian Batsmen

Colombo, August 23: The second and final Test match between India and Sri Lanka commenced on Sunday at the Sinhalese Sports Club. Indian captain reached a significant milestone on the first day of the match, etching his name among the country’s legendary batsmen.

Gill batted at number four and scored 50 runs. With his seventh run, he completed 3,000 runs in Test cricket. This achievement makes Gill the fourth youngest Indian batsman to reach this landmark, accomplishing it at the age of 26 years and 349 days.

The record for the youngest Indian to score 3,000 runs in Test cricket belongs to Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved this at 23 years and 228 days. Following him are Virender Sehwag (26 years and 157 days) and Dilip Vengsarkar (26 years and 263 days).

Gill surpassed the record of former Indian captain Kapil Dev, who reached 3,000 Test runs at 26 years and 356 days.

In his innings, Gill scored 50 runs off 108 balls, hitting six boundaries. Over his Test career, he has played 43 matches and batted in 77 innings, remaining not out seven times and scoring 11 centuries and 9 half-centuries, totaling 3,043 runs. His highest score is 269 runs. Gill made his Test debut in 2020.
