Shruti Haasan has opened up about one of the most heartbreaking decisions she has had to make, revealing that she was forced to rehome her Persian kitten Aslan after developing a severe allergic reaction.
Severe Allergy After Bringing Aslan Home
In a deeply personal Substack post, Shruti explained that just two days after bringing Aslan home, she developed severe rashes and boils across her face. After consulting her dermatologist, she realised that his fur and saliva could be triggering the reaction. Despite trying air purifiers, trimming his hair, wiping him down, changing his food and taking medication, nothing worked.
“I genuinely thought over time we could figure this out together, me and Aslan. This also meant I couldn’t have him on my clothes and had to wash my hands every time I pet him. I would travel come back home and break out into those allergy boils every single time,” she wrote.
Allergy Began Affecting Her Work And Well-Being
The allergy eventually began affecting Shruti’s work, skin and state of mind. After returning from Chennai to Mumbai and suffering an even worse reaction, the actor realised that she could no longer keep Aslan with her. She was left with no choice but to contact his foster mother, who had cared for him before Shruti adopted him.
Shruti Haasan Had To Rehome Aslan
“I had to call Aslan’s foster mum who had him before me and put him back up for adoption,” she revealed. While the decision was necessary for her health, Shruti admitted that giving Aslan up has been extremely painful and has left her struggling with guilt.
‘The Guilt And The Pain’ Have Been Heartbreaking
“It’s been so heartbreaking I cannot even begin to describe the guilt and the pain I’m feeling not even being able to explain to an innocent soul who loves me and my home why he has to leave,” Shruti wrote.
