Shriprakash Jaiswal Passes Away: Senior Congress leader and former Kanpur MP Shriprakash Jaiswal died on Friday 28 November at the age of 81. When his health deteriorated, he was taken to Cardiology Hospital in Kanpur, where doctors declared him dead citing heart related problems. He was facing health related problems for a long time. There has been a wave of grief in political circles due to the demise of Jaiswal.

Jaiswal was MP from Kanpur three times

Shri Prakash Jaiswal, a well-known face of the Congress Party, was elected MP thrice from Kanpur Lok Sabha seat. He served as the Union Minister of State for Home from 2004 to 2009 and later held the post of Coal Minister between 2009 and 2014 during Manmohan Singh’s UPA government. He was greatly respected in the House for his administrative understanding and presence of mind in parliamentary debates.
