Shreyas Iyer Comeback Loading! Star Batter Set To Play Asia Cup 2025; Return In Test Squad Soon: Report

Shreyas Iyer had a solid comeback after he was left out of the BCCI Central Contracts last season due to not playing domestic cricket regularly.

He made his comeback into the ODI side, played key roles in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy win. He also had a great IPL 2025, where he guided Punjab Kings to the final for the first time in 11 years. Even though he is an integral part of the ODI team, he is yet to make a comeback in T20Is and Tests. It now looks like Iyer is finaly set to return to play in all three formats for India.

According to a report in The Times of India, Shreyas Iyer will be considered for selection in the Asia Cup 2025, which will be played in the T20I format, when the selectors meet in August to pick the squad.

Shreyas Iyer Might Be Selected Vs West Indies, South Africa

With Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair not firing in the middle order for India in the Test Series vs England, India are considering trying Iyer in the middle order in the two Test match series at home against West Indies and South Africa in October.

“We need Iyer’s class and experience in the middle order in all formats. It’s something which we missed in England during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The selectors are aware that Iyer is an excellent player of spin bowling, which will be crucial in a home season that involves four Tests – two each against West Indies and South Africa,” a source close to the proceedings told the publication.

Shreyas Iyer was India’s best batter by a mile in the Champions Trophy 2025, which they won for the first time in 12 years. He finished as the team’s highest run-getter with 243 runs from five games.
