New Delhi: JD(U) president Nitish Kumar on Tuesday appointed senior party leader Shravan Kumar as the leader of the JD(U) legislature party, marking a key organisational decision within the ruling setup.
The decision was taken after JD(U) MLAs, during a legislature party meeting, authorised Nitish Kumar to choose their leader. Exercising that mandate, the Chief Minister named Shravan Kumar for the post.
A prominent face within the party, Shravan Kumar belongs to the Kurmi community and is widely regarded as a close aide of Nitish Kumar. He has been a consistent member of the state cabinet and has held ministerial responsibilities in multiple terms of the Nitish-led government.
After the decision, the party has formally communicated the appointment to the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
