Pitru Paksha is usually called Shraddha, which lasts for 15 days. Pitru Paksha begins with Bhadrapada Purnima, which ends on Ashwin Amavasya. What are the rules of Shraddha?
- Shraddha performed for fathers should always be performed in Krishna Paksha. Similarly, for Shraddha and Tarpan etc., the time of the afternoon is considered more virtuous.
- According to religious belief, during the Pitra Paksha, one should never perform Shraddha, Shuklapaksha and Shraddha on his birthday. It is said that the fruit of Shraddha performed at this time is not found.
- The work related to Shraddha should never be done in the evening while drowning the sun and at night, because it has been called demonic Bella. The fruit of Shraddha performed during this period is not obtained.
- Shraddha should never be performed on another’s land in Pitru Paksha. If it is not possible to perform Shraddha on your own house or land, then one should go to a temple, pilgrimage, river bank, forest.
- At least one or three Brahmins should be called to take the food of Shraddha. Cow ghee and milk should be used for the work of Shraddha.
- In Shraddha, a Brahmin should be invited with reverence and respect. The Brahmin should not be proud while offering food for Shraddha or while donating.
- The food of Shraddha should be consumed by keeping the Brahmin silent and he should not praise the dishes or to please the person who makes the shraddha.
- No friend should be called in Shraddha performed for fathers. It is said that by calling a friend on the food of Shraddha, Shraddha becomes virtuous.
- To perform Shraddha during Pitru Paksha, it is considered auspicious and virtuous to donate in always in Kutapal. Shraddha food should also be removed for cows, dogs, crows and ants.
- During the Pitru Paksha, while making food of Shraddha, your face should be towards east. Keep in mind that food should not be prepared by facing towards the south direction.
