Symptoms of Hemorrhoids
Pramod (36), living in Mayur Vihar, Delhi, was complaining of severe constipation for the last 6 months. He often had stomach pain. For this, he would sometimes take powder from the medical store and sometimes take medicine for stomach ache. This also provided relief, but for the last one month he was bleeding after toilet. At first he ignored it, but when the problem increased, he went to the doctor. The doctor did some tests and ultrasound and found out that Pramod had piles. On hearing this, he got scared and asked many questions to the doctor. The doctor said that the problem has increased, but for now medicines will suffice. If there is no relief then surgery will have to be done.
After hearing this, Pramod came home and did not share his problem with anyone and then continued eating the powder as before. Due to this, his bleeding increased a lot and now when he went to the doctor, he said that due to not taking the medicine on time, the disease has increased and now surgery will have to be done in a day or two, otherwise his health can get very bad. Hearing this, Pramod got surgery done. The doctor has advised him to take rest for 15 days.
Pramod’s treatment Dr. Ajit Kumar of the Medicine Department of GTB Hospital. It is said that piles are among those diseases about which patients hesitate to talk. He considers its symptoms inconvenient. Don’t even come to the doctor. Some people keep treating with home remedies for months. They come only when the situation worsens. Due to this, in many cases the treatment gets delayed and surgery has to be done.
Why do piles occur?
Dr. Ushast Dhir, Director of the Department of Liver Transplant and Hepato-Biliary Surgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. It is said that piles is a common disease and the number of its patients has increased compared to before. The main reason for this is chronic constipation, which is caused by wrong eating habits.
Dr. Dhir explains that there are many small veins near the rectum and anus of a person. When a person tries to freshen up due to constipation, there is pressure on these veins. These veins become swollen and this is called piles.
Dr. Dheer says that this disease does not occur in a day or month, it occurs due to constipation that persists for years. Apart from constipation, lack of fiber in food, excessive fried food and continuous sitting work also causes this problem. It is a matter of concern that now people are becoming victims of this disease at a young age. The problem is increasing due to lack of knowledge of the symptoms or hiding the disease and this is the reason why people come late for treatment.

Why do people hide hemorrhoids?
Dr. Ananya Gupta, former Department of Gastrology, Delhi AIIMS It is said that most of the piles patients hide this disease and think that what will people think if someone comes to know, whereas this is wrong. Piles is like any other disease which should be treated timely. For this it is important that you do not ignore its symptoms.
If a person has bleeding after toilet, burning sensation in the anus, pain, itching, extreme pain while passing stool or frequent constipation, then it is important to go to the doctor.
What is the treatment, which doctor to consult?
Dr. Gupta says that patients think that its treatment is only surgery, but it is not so. If the disease is detected in the first grade, it can be cured with medicines that eliminate constipation and proper diet. In the initial stage, 90% of patients recover without surgery. Yes, if the disease reaches grade 4 then it is treated with stapler hemorrhoid surgery and laser surgery.
According to Dr. Gupta, if you are seeing symptoms of piles, then you should go to any hospital and consult a stomach doctor i.e. gastrologist. The doctor will do some tests on you and after that treatment will be given according to the grade of the disease.
