The month of Sawan is considered very sacred and important in Hinduism. It is a month dedicated to Lord Shiva, in which devotees follow fasting, worship and special rules. During this time, many traditions and rules have also been made regarding food and drink, in which the consumption of milk, curd and things like Kadhi and Raita is forbidden.
Now the question is, why should not Kadhi and Curd be eaten in Sawan? What is the religious and scientific reason for this? Let us understand it in simple language.
What does religious belief say?
Raw milk is offered to Lord Shiva
There is a tradition of offering raw milk in the worship of Shiva in Sawan. For this reason, it is forbidden to eat milk and things made from it in this month. It is believed that things that are offered to God should not usually eat themselves at that time.
Yogurt and Kadhi Taboo
Since kadhi is made from yogurt, it is also included in this rule. Even in religious texts, curd and things made from it have been described in the month of Sawan.
What are scientific and Ayurvedic reasons?
The digestive system is weak: According to Ayurveda, the digestive power (digestion) of the body is weak during the Sawan season. In such a situation, eating sour things like curd and kadhi can cause problems of gas, indigestion and acidity.
Vata dosha may increase: Yogurt has properties to increase vata (air element), which can cause joint pain, stomach gas and other problems in this season.
Effect of milk quality in rain: Sawan is high in rain, and during this time, the grass that grazes cow-buffalo due to grass, insects, moisture, has a direct effect on the quality of their milk. These milk and things made from it can harm the body.
