A mother murdered her daughter during an exorcism ritual in China. The girl died due to chest compression due to superstition, for which the court sentenced the mother to 4 years in jail.
ChiA disturbing report has come to light. Here a mother killed her young daughter during an exorcism ritual. Subsequently, a woman named Li, a resident of Guangdong province, was sentenced to three years in prison by a Shenzhen court. The punishment was later increased to four years, the report said. According to reports, Lee and both her daughters were involved in superstitions like exorcism.
Younger daughter said- drive away the ghost
Lee and her children believed that they were being pursued by evil spirits and that their lives were in danger. In December last year, the younger daughter claimed that she was possessed by a spirit and sought help from her mother and elder sister to drive it away. According to the report of South China Morning Post, the girl died while trying to forcefully expel the spirit believed to have entered her body.
The court convicted the mother
To drive away the spirit, the mother and elder sister together pressed the little girl’s chest hard and poured water down her throat. This made the girl uneasy and she vomited. But, the report states that the younger daughter asked them to keep doing so. The next day, other family members found the girl dead. During investigation, blood was found in the girl’s mouth. When the case reached the court, the court said that the cause of death was negligence and the mother was responsible for it.
Chinese cult
Similar allegations have already been made against the sect ‘Church of Almighty God’, formed in China in the 1990s. This sect claimed that Jesus had returned to earth in the form of a woman named Yang Xiangbin. Xu Wenshan, wife of the sect’s founder, Zhao Weishan, also murdered a girl during an exorcism.
The incident happened when she was exorcising the ghost of her daughter’s classmate. He claimed that his daughter’s friend was possessed by a ghost and performed the exorcism ritual along with his son and daughter. During the ritual, he hit the girl on the head with a chair and strangled her. The girl died due to suffocation. A court in Jiangsu province found Xu guilty of intentional murder. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment and ordered him to pay 22,990 yuan (approximately Rs 2 lakh) to the victim’s family.
