Himachal’s only ancient white Shivling

Gangth Mahadev Temple legends in Gangath Bazaar of Himachal Pradesh are hiding legends. The Shivalinga installed here is very special because the Shivling installed here is said to be the only white Shivling in Himachal.

It is said that this Shivling was once a part of the grand Maigarh Fort and because of a devotee, it was able to travel from the ruins to the temple. Today, the deep faith of people is attached to this temple. This Shivling is the center of faith of devotees for centuries. There is a flow of devotees here throughout the year, but the crowd increases in the spring.

Shivling is pressing in debris for centuries

According to history, Maigarh Fort in Kangra was a stronghold of Katoch rulers but after the attack of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan it turned into ruins. It is said that at the same time this Shivling was buried under the layers of debris and its existence was over with the passage of time.

Devotee Baba Maggo got a dream

Several decades later, a devotee Baba Maggo had a dream in which Lord Shiva himself told the address of the Shivling being buried in the debris. After seeing this dream, the devotee started digging with the help of villagers. During the excavation, a stream of milk flowed from that place, after which people received this divine Shivling.

Lord Shiva himself chose the place of his establishment

After removing this Shivling, the devotees decided to take Shivling to Indpur. This Shivling palanquin started to be taken to Indpur, when this palanquin suddenly stopped in Gangath Bazaar. According to the stories, the palanquin was not growing ahead from here, in such a situation, the devotees, considering it as the desire of Lord Shiva, established this Shivling in Gangath Bazaar itself.

Many beliefs are related to this temple

According to beliefs, Gangath White Shivling is considered to give fruit as Amarnath. Worshiping here in the holy month of Sawan brings fruit like the philosophy of Amarnath.

The faith of Longo says that Mahadev rains by offering buttermilk on Shivling. During the drought, the locals offer buttermilk here and according to beliefs it rains immediately after that.

Devotees believe that Mahadev provides healing to the devotees through the philosophy here.
