Sheena Chohan Reimagines Shakuntala Through Raja Ravi Varma-Inspired Photoshoot

Actress Sheena Chohan has stepped into the world of Shakuntala through a new artistic photoshoot inspired by the legendary character and Raja Ravi Varma’s celebrated portrayal of her.

Speaking about her interpretation of the iconic figure, Sheena said she was drawn not only to Shakuntala’s beauty and love story but also to her emotional transformation.

“What fascinated me about Shakuntala was not just her beauty or her love story, but her transformation. She begins as a simple, innocent woman, yet her journey holds so much elegance, emotion, and strength. I wanted to explore the woman behind the myth and imagine what Shakuntala might feel like if she were a woman of our time,” she said.

The actress said she has always been fascinated by stories, art and women who have inspired generations, particularly mythologically rooted Indian characters that continue to carry emotional and cultural relevance.

“With Shakuntala, I wanted to pay tribute to that legacy while giving her a new voice. Her world may belong to another era, but the emotions she represents are still very much ours,” Sheena added.

The photoshoot draws from the visual language of Raja Ravi Varma without directly replicating his iconic artwork. Set against a heritage-inspired backdrop featuring arches, water and natural elements, the images give the character an old-world aesthetic.

Sheena is seen in a pristine white saree with a delicate pink-and-gold border, complemented by flowing hair, subtle traditional makeup, defined eyes and a small bindi. Floral earrings and white flower garlands complete her look as she poses barefoot beside the water with a lotus in her hands.

The shoot was photographed by Prasad H.M. at Evolve Back Hampi, edited by Vaibhav Venu Gopal Vernekar and styled by Veena Shankar.

On the work front, Sheena was last seen as Avali Jijabai in the 2025 historical biopic Sant Tukaram.
