Sheeba Chadha Talks About Salman Khan’s Temperamental Days On Sets Of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam: ‘Is This How Stars Behave.’

Actress Sheeba Chadha’s ability to mould herself according to the requirements of the movie’s character has made her reach the top of the success ladder.

The veteran actor is known for her nuanced performances in movies like Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Badhaai Ho, Doctor G, Dil Se and others. In her Bollywood trajectory, there is also one blockbuster movie that changed the face of the cinema and became everyone’s favourite. Sheeba Chadha was seen as Anupama in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam released in 1999.

Sheeba Chadha revisited her old golden days and shared some anecdotes from her shooting time with the movie’s lead actor, Salman Khan. During an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Sheeba recalled an incident where Bollywood’s Bhaijaan got so furious that he stormed off the sets, hurting an elderly cast member in anger. She recalled how the director of the movie had to stop the shoot and intervene in the matter to sort things out.

 

Sharing one of the incidents from the sets, Sheeba revealed that once, Salman Khan tripped on the sets of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which left the actor furious. He stormed out of the set and slammed the door in anger, which hit an elderly lightman. She added, “He slammed the door, and there was a poor old lightman who got hit, I think. But yes, he stormed off. I remember thinking, ‘Baap re, is this how stars behave?'”

On being asked about Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s temperament and his famous anger, the veteran actress simply shared that he is a passionate director and she never felt intimidated around him. “I think this reputation came much later, but back then, I didn’t really see him behave in an objectionable manner. You could, of course, tell that he was a very passionate director. He certainly had the air of someone working on a very big first film, with very big stars. But I don’t remember him ever losing it. I didn’t feel intimidated by him,” she explained.

Talking about witnessing Salman’s ‘angry side’ and whether this affected her performance or not, Sheeba confidently expressed that her focus was to be honest and complete her job with full sincerity. She claimed that Salman’s anger never affected her performance, as she was always present in her character’s moment.
