Here a mother-in-law did what was expected of a real mother – saved her daughter-in-law’s life by donating her kidney. 55-year-old Binam Devi has set a new example in the society by donating a kidney to her son’s wife Pooja. Pooja’s condition was critical, the doctors had clearly said that transplant was the last option. Mother-in-law became more than a mother in difficult times Pooja had a serious infection during delivery, due to which 75% of her kidneys had failed.
She was on dialysis for the last six months, but the situation was getting worse. When Pooja’s real mother flatly refused to donate her kidney, the search for a donor started in her in-laws’ house too. But no help came from anywhere. In such a situation, Binam Devi not only showed courage but also took the big decision of donating her kidney without any hesitation.
‘She is not my daughter-in-law, she is my daughter’… Binam Devi The successful transplant operation took place at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Lucknow. At present both Pooja and her mother-in-law are safe and stable. Doctors say that Pooja will need hospital treatment for about a year. Binam Devi said emotionally, “Pooja is not my daughter-in-law, she is my daughter. I have got spiritual satisfaction by saving her life.”
