Veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha has penned a heartfelt birthday message for his wife, Poonam Sinha, celebrating their enduring relationship and thanking her for the love, warmth and happiness she has brought to their family.
Taking to X, Shatrughan described Poonam as his “bestest half” and the most special person in his life. He also shared a series of photographs capturing moments from their journey together, including a picture from their wedding ceremony.
“Special wish for the most special person, my ‘bestest half’ @PoonamSinha on the most special day. Thank you for the years of warmth, joy, laughter, togetherness & love. You are the [heart] of our family. Happy Birthday #BirthdayWishes,” he wrote.
The photographs offered a glimpse into different phases of their life together. One black-and-white picture showed the couple sitting close to each other and smiling, while another captured them during their wedding. A separate photograph featured the couple with their children, Sonakshi, Luv and Kush Sinha.
Shatrughan and Poonam’s relationship reportedly began in 1965, when they met during a train journey from Patna to Mumbai. After dating for several years, they married on July 9, 1980.
Poonam had established her own identity before becoming widely known as Shatrughan Sinha’s wife. She won the Miss Young India title in 1968 and entered the film industry under the screen name Komal.
Her acting credits include Jigri Dost and Sabak, the latter featuring Shatrughan as well. She later moved into film production, backing projects such as Prem Geet and Dil Leke Dekho.
After a long break from acting, Poonam returned to the screen with Ashutosh Gowariker’s historical drama Jodhaa Akbar in 2008, portraying Hamida Banu Begum.
