New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s convoy was allegedly blocked, and his gunman and driver were assaulted by a group of people in Malappuram district of Keralam last night, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place on Friday night when Tharoor, a Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram, was travelling to an election campaign event in Wandoor. His convoy was blocked near Thiruvalli Chellithodu bridge by a group of five people.
The Wandoor Police has registered a non‑bailable case based on a complaint lodged by Tharoor’s gunman, Ratheesh KP. They also held one accused, Ummara, a native of Kalikavu and seized two vehicles.
Tharoor did not sustain any injury in the incident, police said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway.
A video from the incident showed the Thiruvananthapuram MP sitting in the front seat of his car and a group of people surrounding his vehicle. Some of them were heard raising slogans.
