It is believed about Mata Dan Dai and this temple that when Ravana started losing the war in Treta Yuga, he called his brother Ahiravan for help. Ravana’s brother Ahiravan lived in Patal Lok.

Ahiravan’s Kuldevi is Dan Dai Mata

Ahiravan had fainted Lord Shri Ram and Lakshmana and took him to Patal Lok, then Hanuman ji went to Patal Lok to save Shri Ram and Lakshmana. Ahiravan was going to sacrifice Goddess Shri Ram and Lakshmana to make himself powerful. At that time Hanuman ji climbed on the head of Patal Bhairavi and fought with Ahiravan and killed him. Then brought Lord Rama and Lakshmana back from Hades. Along with him, Ahiravan’s Kuldevi also came to death. The same Dan became famous by the name of Dai.
