Rules for keeping shankh at home (Shankh rahne ke niyam)
right direction:- The conch should be kept near the temple of the house or in the north-east direction, because this direction is considered auspicious.
Cleanliness:- Always keep the conch in a clean place. After blowing the conch, it should be put back only after washing it with clean water.
Do not keep on the ground:- The conch shell should never be kept on the ground during puja. It should be kept on a clean cloth or stand only.
Correct way:- Place the blown conch on the right side of the idol of Lord Vishnu, Lakshmi or Bal Gopal. The open part of the conch should be upwards.
Regular worship:- The conch shell kept in the house should be worshiped regularly. Also, incense, lamp and flowers should be offered to it.
Keep two conch shells:- It is advisable to keep two conch shells in the house – one for worship and the other for blowing.
Rules of play: The conch used in puja should not be blown. Another conch should be used to blow it.
Shiva Puja:- Do not use conch shell in the worship of Lord Shiva, because it is believed that Lord Shiva had killed the demon Shankhachurna.
Do not keep empty:- The conch should not be kept empty after worship. If you cannot keep anything in it then fill it with water. Sprinkling conch shell water all over the house removes negative energy.
