‘Shameful’: Pakistan pacer slams fans after Salman Agha’s family faces online abuse ahead of Sri Lanka clash

New Delhi: Pakistan pacer Salman Mirza slammed fans for abusing captain Salman Ali Agha’s family on social media. Mirza said it was shameful of the trolls, who targeted Agha’s wife and son on social media over the team’s poor show in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. Pakistan are hanging by a thread in the tournament after managing only one point from their first two matches in the Super Eight.

Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in a do-or-die Super Eight game at the Pallekele International Stadium in Pallekele on Saturday, February 28. Agha & Co. will have to beat Sri Lanka by a huge margin to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament. A loss on Saturday will confirm their exit from the T20 World Cup 2026.

Agha has faced intense criticism from all corners amid Pakistan’s shambolic show in the tournament. He has been criticised by several former Pakistan players over his captaincy decisions and poor batting. Having scored just 60 runs in six matches in the tournament so far, Agha has endured a forgetful campaign.

Recently, the Pakistan skipper’s wife took to social media to bash trolls, who were abusing her and the couple’s son online. “Abusing me and my son won’t win you the World Cup,” Agha’s wife wrote on social media, hitting back at trolls. On Friday, Salman Mirza spoke about the issue and lashed out at the fans, calling the act shameful.

“…. any such act which targets a player’s family is a very shameful thing. Because the player always wants to do good on the ground. If he doesn’t perform well on any given day, that doesn’t mean you should target their families. And I don’t think this should happen at all,” Mirza said in the pre-match press conference ahead of Pakistan’s crucial Super Eight match against Sri Lanka.
