Shakambhari Navratri 2025: Navratri is celebrated four times in Hindu religion. Apart from Chaitra and Shardiya Navratri, there are two Gupta Navratri. 9 forms of Maa Durga are worshiped in Chaitra and Shardiya Navratri. Whereas 10 Mahavidyas are worshiped during Navratri. Apart from these four Navratri, one Navratri is also celebrated in the month of Pausha. People call this Navratri as Shakambhari Navratri.
This Navratri is seen with great pomp and show mainly in some places of Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. Mother Shakambhari is worshiped during Navratri. Mother Shakambhari is considered the goddess of vegetation. Mother Shakambhari is considered to be the form of Mother Bhagwati. According to mythology, Mother Goddess Bhagwati had incarnated as Goddess Shakambhari to save the earth from famine and food crisis. Shakambhari Navratri starts on Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Paush month and ends on the full moon day. According to the Panchang, this year Shakambhari Navratri is starting from 28th December 2025. It will end on January 3, 2026. Shakambhari Navratri is not of 9 but 8 days.
Puja method of Shakambhari Navratri (Shakambhari Navratri Puja Method
- During Shakambhari Navratri, wake up early in the morning and take bath.
- After this wear clean clothes.
- Then sow barley seeds in a pot of soil.
- Sprinkle water on it for 8 days.
- Kalash Sthapana is also done on the first day.
- During this, spread a red colored cloth on a stool. Then place a kalash filled with Ganga water on it.
- Wrap the Kalash with red colored cloth.
- After this, place a single coconut on the Kalash.
- Make sure to tie red chunri and kalava on the coconut.
- After this, offer flowers, garland, Akshat, Roli to Mother Shakambhari.
- Similarly, worship Mother Shakambhari for 8 days.

The festival of Shakambhari Navratri reminds us of the basic elements of life. Food, water, trees, plants and greenery are said to be the form of Mother Shankabhari’s grace. During the festival people also take an oath to conserve nature.
