According to the legend, Mata Shabari was born in the Shabar caste of the Bhil community. His father’s name was Aj. He was the head of the Bhil community. His mother’s name was Indumati. In childhood, Mother Shabari was called Shramana. Then with the passage of time, she started being known by the name of her caste and her name became Shabari. After this, preparations for Shabari’s marriage started in her youth.
Mata Shabari’s parents fixed her marriage as per Bhil tradition, but she became distressed after knowing that animals and birds would be used as food in the marriage. He did not accept the killing of innocent creatures. So at that very moment she resolved that she would not marry. After this, in the darkness of the night, Shabari showed courage and left all the animals and birds. However, when Mata Shabari was doing this noble work, someone noticed her.
Then, out of fear, she left the house a day before the marriage and went towards Dandakaranya forest. Many sages used to meditate in this forest. Maharishi Matang had an ashram in Dandakaranya. Shabari got involved in his service selflessly. When the sages came to know about him, they asked him for his introduction. Maharishi Matang accepted Shabari as his daughter and told her about Lord Ram.
He told Shabari that one day Shri Ram himself will come to meet her. Till then you wait for them. The sage’s words became the goal of Shabari’s life. Even after the death of Matang Rishi, she continued to wait for Shri Ram with full dedication. Ultimately, during the exile, Lord Shri Ram along with Lakshman reached Shabari’s ashram. Mother Shabari and Shraddha fed him false plums. God gave salvation to Mother Shabari and a place in His supreme abode.
