Singers Shaan and Kailash Kher, along with actor Arya Babbar, are coming together for Mahabali, a Broadway-style mythological musical that reimagines the Ramayana through the perspective of Lord Hanuman.
Produced by Randhir Ranjan Roy and Abhishek Narayan, the musical is scheduled to launch during Dussehra and explores Hanuman’s devotion, humility and selfless service to Lord Rama against the backdrop of a large-scale theatrical production.
Shaan said the music has been created to complement both the spiritual core and theatrical scale of the production.
“The music of MAHABALI is designed to evoke deep devotion while maintaining the theatrical momentum of a Broadway show. Every track serves as an emotional heartbeat for Hanuman’s journey,” he said.
Kailash Kher said the musical required a powerful vocal and musical approach to match the spiritual and cosmic dimensions associated with Hanuman.
“Through this soundtrack, we have infused ancient mantras and powerful rhythms to create a sonic experience that doesn’t just entertain, but transports the audience straight into the heart of the heavens,” Kailash said.
At its centre, Mahabali focuses on Hanuman not merely as a divine warrior of immense strength but as a figure defined by humility and complete devotion. The narrative explores themes of loyalty, selfless service and spiritual wisdom, presenting his victories as offerings to Lord Rama.
Arya Babbar, who plays Ravan, said the Hanuman-focused narrative offers a different dramatic perspective on the epic conflict.
“Playing Ravan opposite a narrative centered on Hanuman shifts the entire dramatic friction of the story. It allows us to explore the epic clashes with a fresh, gripping intensity,” he said.
Aankiet Mohan plays the title role of Hanuman, while Saanand Verma portrays Vistarvachie and Pankaj Berry plays Kaal Drishti. Mukul Nag and Aadesh Bharadwaj are also part of the cast.
Mohan described portraying Hanuman on a live Broadway-style stage as both an honour and a challenge, saying the production seeks to balance the character’s extraordinary strength with his profound humility.
Director and co-writer Dhruv Tripathi has written the musical with Mihir Jadhav. Producer Randhir Ranjan Roy said the team aims to present Indian mythological theatre with global production values by combining storytelling, stagecraft and audio-visual technology.
