New Delhi: The air quality in the national capital and the NCR region reached lowest since last winters after the full-fleged Diwali celebration. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) on Tuesday morning reached 347 which falls under the ‘very poor’ category. In many areas including Bawana, Jahangirpuri, Wazirpur the AQI crossed 400 mark, reaching ‘severe’ levels.
As the air quality entered ‘very poor’ category, the Comission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) implemented the Stage II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is enforced in Delhi. This stage was implemented following the air quality index (AQI) crossing 300, triggering the measures under GRAP-II.

Air Quality in NCR
The air quality in Noida on Tuesday reached 324, in Greater Noida at 288, in Gurugram at 338, Ghaziabad at 326 and Faridabad at 240.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) categorises AQI between 0 and 50 as good, 50 to 100 as satisfactory, 101 to 200 as moderate, 201 to 300 as poor, 301 to 400 as very poor and 400 to 500 as severe. The average air quality in Delhi falls under ‘very poor’ category while many areas also have air quality in ‘severe’ category as per the AQI provided by CPCB’s SAMEER app.
Key measures under GRAP-II
The important measures implemented after the enforcement of GRAP-II include restrictions on diesel generator sets based on power range, increased water sprinkling, enhanced mechanized road sweeping, and intensified public transport services.
