South Africa all-rounder Prenelan Subrayen was reported for chucking during the first ODI against Australia and will sit out of the following two ODIs after being suspended by the ICC pending further testing, according to a report in Yahoo Sports . Subrayen bowled a brilliant spell of 1-46 in 10 overs, taking the key wicket of Travis Head that triggered a huge collapse as the Proteas won the game by 46 runs.
The ICC confirmed on Thursday that the match officials have reported Subrayen’s action, and he’ll have to undergo assessment of his action at an ICC-accredited testing facility within 14 days.
The spinner won’t be allowed to play any ICC-sanctioned matches until being cleared. South Africa are already without Kagiso Rabada who was ruled out of the series due to injury. Meanwhile, this is the third time Subrayen was reported for suspect action during his career, with the first report coming more than a decade ago in 2012. He was later cleared to bowl in 2013. He made his Test debut for South Africa in Zimbabwe earlier this year and was handed the maiden ODI cap in the first ODI against Australia.
“South Africa off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen has been reported for a suspect bowling action in the first ODI against Australia played on Aug 19, Tuesday, in Cairns. The match officials’ report specified concerns about the legality of Subrayen’s action,” ICC said in a report.
Adam Zampa Sanctioned For Audible Obscenity
Meanwhile, Australia spinner Adam Zampa was slapped with a demerit point after he was found guilty of breaching the ICC code of conduct for using “an audible obscenity” during the first ODI. The incident occurred during the 37th over of the South Africa innings when Zampa was caught using inappropriate language after a misfield and an overthrow on his bowling. Zampa accepted the charges, and no formal hearing was required.
