Sensex ends 368 points lower, Nifty below 24,500; Maruti down 2%

Benchmark stock market indices closed lower on Tuesday, dragged by a decline in heavyweight financial and private sector banking stocks as US tariffs play on investor sentiment.

The S&P BSE Sensex lost 368.49 points to end at 80,235.59, while the NSE Nifty50 declined by 97.65 points to close at 24,487.40.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited, said, “The national market reacted with volatility to the ongoing developments in global trade tariffs, reflecting caution following the extension of the U.S.-China tariff truce and ahead of key inflation data due later today.”

“The US inflation figures with any signs of tariff-related impact could influence the Fed’s policy stance. Meanwhile, domestic inflation is expected to continue below the RBI’s range,” he added.
