When the challenges of winning the elections in front of the fighters fighting for freedom and repeatedly prison trips, they took every possible way for this. Mahavir Tyagi, who spent eleven years in jail in the struggle for independence, was MP and MLA many times. Pandit was also included in Nehru’s cabinet. There were such sharp MPs that in the 1962 war, after the Aksai China’s region went into possession of China, Pandit Nehru said in Parliament that “a straw of grass could not grow in this area” Tyagi took off the cap from his headless head and said, “Shouldn’t it be cut, or should it be given to someone else?”

Congress loses the British governor
The British governor was taking great interest in the election. On his instigation, he had become an agriculturalist party of Raje-Maharajas and Talukdars. This party had a lot of emphasis. The collectors of the districts were also supported. Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya’s independent Congress party was also in the fray. Rafi Ahmed Kidwai was the president of the Congress’s United Province (Uttar Pradesh). The influential Congress leaders were not keen on candidature in the state level elections. There was also a crisis of money in front of the Congress. The British wanted the Congress not to win. Here, due to Malviya’s party, the loss of Congress was also being fixed. Malaviya was in Dehradun in those days. Mahavir Tyagi, a resident of there, used to go to ask his skilled Kshem. Kidwai was aware of this.

Congress and Malaviya agreement
Kidwai put responsibility on Tyagi to persuade Malaviya to fight the Congress in the alliance. He has differences with the Congress only on the Communal Award. The rest are one of him and the Congress. Will contest separate elections. Will not win themselves. Will also defeat Congress. The Agriculturalist Party will win. The desire of the British will be fulfilled. Please compromise the Congress. Will leave some seats for them. After this, Tyagi met Malaviya. He also understood. The next day Kidwai reached Dehradun. The matter went ahead.
Malaviya asked how many seats will we give to our party? Kidwai said that take as much as you want! Malaviya was surprised. Said truth? Malaviya said give fifteen seats. In response, Kidwai offered 25 and surprised him again! Then agreed to 20. Malaviya asked for writing. Kidwai gave it. Then, why was the secret open to give more seats than Malaviya’s demand?

Kidwai called Tyagi again after two-three days from Lucknow. The problem was told that in all the seats, the names of Congress candidates were announced. Now who should remove Malaviya for 20 candidates? You make some such smarts that some Congress candidate should move towards Malaviya’s party but they do not find it. Tyagi was worried that if Malaviya came to know, what would you say?

Election means every plea is justified!
In the return of Dehradun, Tyagi had decided how to persuade Malaviya? Told Malaviya that his decision to meet the Congress is being praised everywhere. There is no leader of his stature. But there was a majority in favor of Sardar Patel. Many Congressmen who support you say that they do not support you! Because this is why Sardar Patel is taking revenge on him. Those supporting you are being denied tickets by bean. He has this color that Patel is taking revenge and on the other hand Malaviya is not including his name in his share seats. Malaviya said, “Green green green green – it is so give their names. I will definitely stand them.”

Saral Malaviya told Tyagi to tell the name. Tyagi said that there are many. How many names should I tell? Malaviya said Hari ji (Hriday Nath Kunjru), C.Y. Leave Chintamani, Chaudhary Mukhtar Singh etc. for me. Give the remaining 14-15 names. Tyagi reached Lucknow and asked Kidwai to give me whose name should I give? Candidates from Congress, money from Malaviya
Tyagi handed over the name to Malaviya. Malaviya said that ask those whose names are being given before. It should not happen that I declare their candidature and they refuse. Tyagi assured. In reality, even before the name was named, Tyagi had written a letter to such colleagues, “Don’t tell Malaviya. Actually you are a Congress candidate but take a ticket of Malaviya. You will also get five-ten thousand rupees and will not have to compete with Malaviya’s party. You will have to be selected.” Among the names given by Tyagi, a close friend was also Thakur Todar Singh of Aligarh. He was together in Meerut jail.

After all, the one who was afraid of Tyagi. Thakur Todar Singh wrote to Mahatma Gandhi in a letter in Urdu, “Mahabir Tyagi, a raas cattle (bull) Musmi Todar Singh, made ten thousand rupees to ten thousand rupees, Malviya’s hand and his rope opened with your peg and tied it in the peg of Malaviya. And it is not to be said to anyone. Your Congress has come down! “
Mahatma Gandhi sent the letter to Sardar Patel, the head of the Central Parliamentary Board. He immediately called a board meeting in Banaras. Patel, Nehru, Tandon and Sampurnanand were all against this agreement. Patel was more angry. They wanted Malviya’s candidates to be defeated everywhere. The board wanted to know whose permission was compromised with Malaviya ji?

Troubled Tyagi asked Kidwai what should I clarify on the letter of Todar Singh? Kidwai said that I did not write. Tyagi said that I have a signature. The answer was that you still refuse. Tyagi was with Rafi at every step. So Patel was a friend. Then took the entire story in front of Patel by taking Rafi in confidence.
Rafi had to hear a lot from Patel. Tyagi wrote, “Rafi Ahmed Kidwai and the Provincial Congress Committee were reported that they will remember all their ages.” But Tyagi could not figure out Rafi. Rafi may have listened to it, but even the future of the mind. In the election, the agreement with Malaviya’s party remained unabated. As soon as he got out, Rafi, who considered it necessary for the victory of the Congress, started again. Through Tyagi, he was preparing to seek some help from Malaviya once again.

Tyagi, who returned from Banaras muscle, received a call from Rafi that there is a lot of money. Get fifteen thousand from Malaviya ji. Tyagi said that brother Rafi has come out of Sardar Patel the day after tomorrow. You are getting stuck again. Rafi said, “Just take the work with intelligence. Do not ask for money directly. Say that people in Banaras are discussing that Malaviya becomes a great protector of Hindus. They talk about the progress of Harijans but not a single Harijan gave his party ticket.”

Hearing this, Malaviya was so shocked that they stayed on the pillow. He said that it was disgusted. There was a fierce mistake. What can happen now? Tyagi, you immediately go to Lucknow and tell Rafi to give two more seats to keep us and prepare your Harijan candidates to accept our tickets. Tyagi was amazed. Malaviya directed his son Govind Malaviya to send Tyagi to Lucknow immediately. First class reservation took place. Malaviya gave hundred rupees separately. According to Tyagi, he accepted this money in the same way as he gets a son from the father. Rafi called Malaviya from Lucknow, “I will give you two or four Harijans. But I will give those who do not expect to win, because we are short of money and will have to spend at least fifty thousand for their victory.” Malaviya did not object to the expense. Reply replied, “Give me four Harijan. The party will be welfare. My responsibility for spending and winning.” Tyagi further wrote, “Then he gave four names to Malaviya and took his election. The Congress got a majority in the election and its government was formed.
