In view of this, the Punjab government has declared a four -day holiday in all schools of the state. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on 26 August that from August 27 to August 30, all government and private primary, secondary and senior secondary schools will remain closed. He said, “For the last few days, there has been continuous rains and according to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy rains in the coming days.”
Possibility of heavy rains till 26 August
The Meteorological Department said on Tuesday that heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue in northwest India till 26 August. North-west Punjab and Jammu region are expected to receive heavy rains in the next 24 hours. But heavy rains are likely to continue for the next five days, after which the weather may change. The villages of many districts have been flooded due to excess water being released from Pong and Bhakra dams in Punjab. The most affected districts are Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Taran Taran, Ferozepur and Hoshiarpur.

Rain and clouds erupted in Katra and Doda, Jammu
The weather conditions are also critical in neighboring states. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana are also receiving heavy rains. Eight people have died due to rain and cloudburst in Katra and Doda in Jammu. Five people died due to landslides in the Ardh Kumari region of Katra and three people due to cloudburst in Doda. At present, the chances of relief in Jammu are less visible.
