If you are a customer of State Bank of India (SBI) and pay daily through UPI, then this news is very important for you. Actually, SBI’s UPI service will be closed for a while at midnight of 22 July 2025. The bank itself has given information about this through its social media posts. SBI has said that UPI services will remain closed on July 22 at night due to maintenance. During this time, customers will neither be able to send money from UPI nor receive it.
For how long the service will be closed?
SBI has told through its social media posts that on 22 July 2025, their UPI service will be interrupted for some time. This blockage will be caused by a plan maintenance. During this time UPI service will be completely closed from 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm (IST). That is, in this 45 minute period, you will not be able to use SBI’s UPI service.
Due to Scheduled Maintenance Activity, SBI UPI Services will be temporarily unavailable from 00:15 hrs to 01:00 hrs on 22.07.2025 (IST).
Customers may continue to use UPI Lite Services for Uninterrupted Service.

However, during this time you can use UPI Lite Service. SBI has advised its customers that UPI Lite can be resorted to to make digital payments without any hassle during maintenance time. The bank has also apologized to its customers for this inconvenience and said that they will try to normalize the service as soon as possible.
How to activate UPI Lite?
If you are wondering how to use UPI Lite, then it is very easy. For this, you have to download SBI’s Bhim SBI Pay app. After opening the app, you have to go to the UPI Lite section. There you will get the option to load money in your UPI Lite account. Once you load the fund, your UPI Lite will be activated and you will be able to use it for small transactions.
The specialty of UPI Lite is that it allows you to pay even in conditions like maintenance. This is quite convenient for small transactions and SBI has introduced it as a backup option for its customers.
What is the limit of UPI Lite?
According to the SBI website, you can load up to a maximum of Rs 2000 in your UPI Lite account at a time. Apart from this, you can pay maximum 500 rupees in every transaction. In one day, you can do transactions up to a total of up to Rs 4000 through UPI Lite. Also, the maximum balance in your UPI Lite account can be Rs 2000 at any time. These limits are enough for small payments, especially when the main UPI service is not working.
