New Delhi: Sawan Barwal bettered a 48-year-old national record, the longest standing mark in Indian athletics on Sunday.
The marathoner clocked 2 hours 11 minutes and 58 seconds to finish 20th in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to improve on Shivnath Singh’s mark of 2:12:00, which stood since 1978.
In the Paris Marathon, Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa emerged as the fastest among nearly 60,000 runners on Sunday.
Ethiopia’s Shure Demise set a course record to win the women’s race.
