Sawan 2025: The holy month of Sawan is dedicated to Lord Shiva and during this time Shiva devotees are absorbed in his worship. The Kavad Yatra to be done in this month has special significance. Millions of devotees fill the holy water from the Ganges river, keep it in Kavad and offer water to the Shivling while traveling on foot. This journey is not only physical austerity, but also a symbol of spiritual purification and unwavering reverence towards Lord Shiva. But do you know that there are different types of Kavad and which kanvad brings the most virtue? Let’s know about the religious beliefs prevailing in this regard
Four types of Kavad are mainly brought in the Kavad Yatra, all of which have their own special significance.
Normal kavad
This is the most common form of Kavad, in which devotees travel at their convenience, stop and rest in between. There are no special rules in this kavad, just devotion and dedication to Shiva is the main one. Devotees who bring normal kanvad also receive the blessings of Lord Shiva.
Dak kavad
It is considered to be the most difficult and virtuous type of Kavad Yatra. Shiva devotees who bring the postal kanvad continue without stopping. From starting the journey to offering water on the Shivling, they do not stop even for a moment. If you have to stop for some reason, Kavad is not kept on the ground, but he is caught in the hand of a stand or other Shiva devotee. This harsh penance is considered a symbol of ultimate devotion towards Shiva and it is believed that it attains unlimited virtue.
Swing kanvad
In this type of kanvad, devotees bring holy water in a wooden structure. In this, two people usually walk together, one forward and one back, and swinging with Kavad. This journey also demands a lot of restraint and cooperation.
Khadi Kavad
In this Kavad Yatra, Kanwadia does not keep Kavad on the ground until it reaches the destination. If he wants to rest, then Kavad is hung from a tree or other support. It is also considered a type of harsh penance.
However, it is important to understand that every Kavad Yatra has its own importance. Lord Shiva only sees true devotion and reverence. If a devotee is not physically capable and he travels with full devotion even after taking a normal kanvad, then he gets the same virtue.
